Tips for Effective Study Time at Home
Motivation is what sets you in motion, habit is what keeps you goingJim Rohn
1. Establish a Morning Routine
Studying at home may actually not be your thing, but if you have a lot to cover and you are stuck at home then you don’t have a choice.
The first thing to do is to re-establish a morning routine as quick as possible. See that you wake up the same time you use to wake every morning and prepare just like you are going to school.
Do just the same thing you would have done if you were to go to school, pack your back bag, dress nice then prepare your mind to study.
If this is established you will certainly feel the same vibe you feel while in school.
2. Create a Designated Study Area
The next thing to do is to create a special place for your study.
Not everywhere in the house will serve you for effective study time. You might be tempted to study from your bed or living room – never give in, that is not a good idea.
Instead create a study area that resembles the type you have in school. It can be a reading table and sit, placed in a quiet and strategic place with less distractions, then get all your study material in place.
Your environment matters, an environment meant for rest and leisure can not encourage productivity.
3. Organize your Study Goal
For effective study, you must organize your study goals and aim. Make sure you plan and know what you want to achieve for the month, week, and day. You can come up with a to-do list or schedule for areas to study. Use organizing apps like google calendar on your phone to organize your days.
4. Stay Connected with Other Scholars
Even if you don’t feel contacting your colleagues is necessary, it is a wonderful idea to keep in touch with some them and stay up-to-date on their progress with study while keeping them up to date on yours. This way you can serve as a motivation to each other and in turn achieve more goals.
5. Take Breaks for Mind Refreshment
Taking breaks is good for maximum productivity. It reduces stress – “You can’t come and kill yourself”.
It is okey if you want to spend quality time studying, but one or two – 5 mins breaks between an hour will be good for your mind and improves assimilation.
Also I recommend you also take a very active fun breaks, not just scrolling through social media feeds but taking a real fun time.
6. Maintain your Normal Study Hours (Bonus)
If your normal study time is 3 hours, stick to it. You are already used to it and it works for you. There is no point working yourself out because you have more free time. It is easier to maintain your habits than to build new ones.
